Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: Český Krumlov is a historic town in Southern Bohemia. Just like Prague, Český Krumlov is situated on the banks of the Vltava River (Moldau). There are two main historic areas in Český Krumlov: The Latran area at the foot of the Český Krumlov Castle and the city of Český Krumlov itself on the opposite bank of the Vltava River. The 13th century Český Krumlov Castle is the second largest in the Czech Republic and the most visited site in the town. The Castle of Český Krumlov has Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. Johann Cristian I von Eggenberg converted the castle into an impressive Baroque castle. One of the highlights of Český Krumlov Castle is the 17th century Baroque theater. There are only five theaters of this kind in the world, one in Český Krumlov, one in Litomyšl Castle, one in Russia and two in Sweden. The Cloak Bridge spans the moat on the west side of the Castle of Český Krumlov. The corridor in the lower storey of the Cloak Bridge connects the Masquerade Hall with the 16th century Baroque theater of the castle of Český Krumlov. The Historic Centre of Český Krumlov is little changed since the 18th century, the Baroque buildings have been well maintained. Český Krumlov is located 25 km south of World Heritage Holašovice. The Historic Centre of Český Krumlov gained the status as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1992.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: Český Krumlov Castle is the second largest castle in the Czech Republic, it the most visited attraction in Český Krumlov. The castle consists of more than forty buildings. They were built on a narrow rock above the left bank of the Vltava River, the Moldau. The centre of the castle complex is the tower and Little Castle or Hrádek. The Historic Centre of Český Krumlov was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The Cloak Bridge spans the deep moat on the west side of the Český Krumlov Castle. The corridor in the lower storey of the bridge connects the Masquerade Hall with the 17th century Baroque castle theater. The corridor in the upper storey of the bridge links the castle park and gardens of Český Krumlov Castle. The Český Krumlov Castle has Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The gate is leading to the thirth courtyard of the Upper Castle of Český Krumlov. On the right side is a building embellished with Renaissance sgraffiti, known as the Diary. The buildings and palaces of Český Krumlov Castle are built around five courtyards. The Castle and Chateau of Český Krumlov is the second largest castle in the Czech Republic. The castle was founded some time before 1250.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: One of the highlights of the Český Krumlov Castle is the 17th century castle theater, it is considered the best preserved Baroque theatre in Europe. There are only five theaters of this kind in the world, one in Český Krumlov Castle, one in Litomyšl Castle in the Czech Republic, one in Russia and two in Sweden. One of the Swedish theatres is situated in the gardens of Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The cascade fountain in the gardens of Český Krumlov Castle. The fountain is situated between the Upper Garden and Lower Garden. The construction of the fountain started in 1750 and lasted several years. The design was based on the fountains in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace in Vienna. The castle garden was founded in the 1670s.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The river Vltava is meandering through the historic centre of Český Krumlov. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1253, the town was built around the Český Krumlov Castle. The historic centre of Český Krumlov has little changed since the 18th century. The historic centre of Český Krumlov was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1992.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The Barbican, the Barbakán, stairway is leading to the Mouse Hole, the Myší díra. The inner town is separated from the outside world by the Mouse Hole, a deep and steep gap. The Mouse Hole was a defensive moat. In the past, the moat was spanned by a wooden drawbridge, it was replaced by a stone bridge in 1787.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: A house in the Latrán Quarter embellished with sgraffiti. The historic centre of Český Krumlov is a maze of narrow alleys paved with cobblestones, the alleys are running uphill and back down hill to the banks of the river Moldau. Most of the buildings in the historic centre of Český Krumlov were erected between th e14th and 17th centuries.

   Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The decorated façade of a restaurant in the town centre. The Egon Schiele Art Museum is also located in the historic centre of Český Krumlov, the museum is dedicated to the Austrian painter and printmaker Egon Schiele, he lived and worked for several years in Český Krumlov, the birthplace and hometown of his mother.

    Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The former Minorite Monastery. The monastery was founded in 1350. Now, it serves the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, the only order of Czech origin. The order was founded as a hospice brotherhood in 1233. The building is entered through a gate with the coat-of-arms of the Knights of the Cross. Behind the gate lies the small park Tramín.

    Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The façade of House no. 53 in the Latrán Quarter is decorated with Renaissance sgraffiti and paintings, made around 1580. The paintings represent ten stages in the life of man. The Baroque buildings in the historic centre of Český Krumlov have been well maintained, they were restored in 1989.

    Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The town is located in Southern Bohemia, on the banks of the meandering river Vltava nearby the Czech-Austrian border. There are two main historic quarters in Český Krumlov, the Latran Quarter at the foot of Český Krumlov Castle and the historic centre of Český Krumlov itself on the opposite bank of the Vltava River, the Moldau.

    Historic Centre of Český Krumlov: The cylindrical Guard Tower is a medieval tower, built around 1500 as part of the fortifications of Český Krumlov. During the Middle Ages, Český Krumlov had extensive fortifications. In the 19th century, the town gates were pulled down. The Budějovická Gate was the only town gate to remain, a small part of the town walls and the cylindrical Guard Tower also remained.
